What happens when a self described adrenaline junkie, entrepreneur, storyteller and advocate is told that life as he knows it is about to change forever?
This week, I sit down with Austin Linton, founder of Rare Perspective Co., for an honest and inspiring conversation about vision loss, resilience, adventure, identity and finding purpose in the unexpected.
At just 25 years old, Austin was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome Type 2A, a progressive condition affecting both vision and hearing. The diagnosis forced him to rethink nearly every aspect of his life, from independence and identity to the future he had imagined for himself.
Before vision loss, Austin chased adventure through skateboarding, snowboarding, motorcycles, travel and anything that pushed him beyond his comfort zone. What makes his story so compelling is that he never stopped chasing adventure. He simply found a new path forward.
We will talk about the turning points along his journey, the challenges of adapting to vision loss, mental health, personal growth and how he transformed a life changing diagnosis into a mission of awareness, advocacy and connection.
We will also explore the story behind Rare Perspective Co., the growing movement that uses storytelling, apparel and community engagement to challenge assumptions about blindness and low vision while encouraging all of us to see the world through a different lens.
