World Braille Day – An Informal Celebration – Jan 4, 2021

On this day in 1809 Louis Braille was born in Coupvray, France, going blind at the age of three and only living until age 43. Despite braille not being adopted as a viable reading and writing system for the blind until 1954, more than 150 years later, it is still the system used which brings true literacy to those of us who are blind. What does braille mean to you? How do you use it in your daily life? Are you newly blind and wondering what advantage there is to learning braille? Let’s get together and share, ask and answer questions, and celebrate how braille has impacted us.
