July 2, 2022Experience the History of Hope at Boys Town. Father Edward J. Flanagan purchased the Overlook Farm in 1921 and it became the new, permanent site of Boys Town. In the decades that followed, schools, churches and homes were built, and tens of thousands of young lives were transformed. Visit the Village of Boys Town, a National Historic Landmark District, and get an unforgettable glimpse into the history of an organization that has given new hope to so many at-risk children. Your day at Boys Town will include a guided, walk-thru tour of Dowd Memorial Chapel where Father Flanagan is entombed. You will be surrounded by the lovely Gothic architecture of the chapel, or what Father Flanagan liked to call
a prayer in stone.
Take a step back in time with a guided tour of Father Flanagan’s Historic Home where he lived for over a decade. In addition to his original living quarters, you will also be able to step into recreations of Father Flanagan’s office, the original chapel and dining room and more. The SEED program of STRIVE4YOU’s mission is to create a culture of safety and security for all, implementing a holistic circle of services training body, mind, and spirit. Join us as we explore essential techniques for keeping us safe at home and while we are getting out and active in our communities. Learn how what we say and how we say it can empower us. You will also be introduced to some of our hands-on techniques, the SEED Functional Foundations, situational awareness, and various other important self-defense topics. These in-person workshops give participants an opportunity to see how practical and efficient our SEED system of techniques are, while providing a welcoming environment for truly meaningful safety education discussions, especially as they pertain to specific concerns within the disability community.
